My daughter gave me a Karst sketchbook for Christmas, and I was immediately enchanted. Paper made from stone powder. Dense. Durable. Remarkable. I could do watercolor on it, and it didn’t buckle at all. But the best discovery was that I could do silverpoint on it. I love how the silver marks tarnish over time. It’s lovely, just lovely.
During this time, I was having some stress-induced bubbles form on the back of my eye, and they were distorting everything I saw. It took almost a year for them to go away enough to be able to draw confidently again.
